Redo a Chair

Have you discovered the magic of oven cleaner? The irony is I can’t think of the last time I used it for its intended purpose. No matter. Oven cleaner takes off old stain. Magically.

This chair was okay. But the stain color was tired. Time for a refresh!

I used a tub to place the chair in while spraying it with oven cleaner and a hose. There is a drain in the ground next to the tub that makes it easy for these types of projects.

Directions:

  1. Clean the chair.
  2. Find an outdoor or well ventilated space.
  3. Use gloves, a scrub-brush, oven cleaner, and a hose to remove the stain.
  4. Make sure to have a way to dispose of the dirty water.
  5. Repeat step 3 if needed.
  6. Allow to dry.
  7. Sand lightly.
  8. Finish with wax or a combination of milk paint followed by wax.
