Milk-Paint Table
I am passionate about bringing a pop of color to tired furniture. I love a mix of wood finishes, but a balanced home often has painted pieces as well.
I have used other milk paint brands, but Miss Mustard Seed’s colors are so gorgeous and the paint is reliable.
You can use Miss Mustard Seed’s matte glaze to protect the finished product. I have used it and it is wonderful. However, to save money, this “safecoat” brand is available at any hardware store.
Directions:
1. Sand the surface of the table. (Mine was previously waxed, so I needed to sand that wax off.)
2. Mix the milk paint according to the directions. It is 1 part powder to 1 part water. Whisk. I also add the bonding agent.
3. Paint the table with a brush. Let it dry and give it a second coat.
*To aim for an aged look or if you would like to expose the previous paint color or wood, as you paint, and while the paint is still wet, use a metal tool to scrape and remove some of the paint. (The tool I used was a metal paint roller scraper.) Later when it is dry, you’ll remove additional paint.
*After the paint has dried, working with the areas of paint previously scraped off with the scraper, go ahead and chip away additional paint with a “flat-head” screwdriver. Try to work in an asymmetrical pattern so it does not look too uniform.
4. Coat the entire table with a matte glaze. Thin out the brush strokes and create even smooth strokes before moving on to the next area.
Congratulations you are done!
